My father was a professional DJ and amateur radio enthusiast. When I was a boy I would raid his record collection and listen to short-wave radio broadcasts from all over the world. My mother had music in her heart and was always singing her favorite Motown songs around the house.
I picked up guitar at age 12 and by age 14, I was performing in bars and night clubs. My senior class voted me "Best Musician" and I went on to study music (albeit briefly) at Temple University in Philadelphia. I got my real education moonlighting as a bass player in original & cover bands all over the region.
After college, I moved to Colorado and began playing professionally in various Blues and Funk bands. During this time, I experienced my first platinum weddings in world-class resorts like Breckenridge, Vail, Aspen, and Telluride, just to name a few.
Unhappy with how some of the bandleaders treated the guests, I set out to form my own group with a focus on outstanding customer service. I chose only the best musicians and played only the best music.
I started Cadillac Jazz and released my first CD
The Jason Hollar Jazz Quartet.
Today, I'm fortunate to make my living doing what I love. I'm both honored and humbled to play with so many incredibly gifted musicians here in Pittsburgh. My passion is making meaningful music and I have developed a knack for planning memorable events.
As musician, my main instrument is the upright bass. I also play the electric bass and hit the road every now and then with some great bands. As a DJ, I dig the classics & the brand new jams and love keeping the dance floor packed all night long.
As long as I've been performing, I've been the guy in charge of the audio equipment. I always deliver great sound.
